I'll go with the last fannish page I bookmarked: TNG-Picard.com, a beautifully organized collection of TNG and Picard costumes and props, including close-ups of details.

Challenge #5: Create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

This is surprisingly hard. Everything top of mind for me right now is something that no one reading this has any power over, and mostly involves the world being less of a horrible trash fire.

I guess to that end, if you have any money to spare, would you consider making a donation to an organization trying to do good in the world? Some that I support are Flatbush Cats, The Wildcat Sanctuary, Doctors Without Borders, Partners in Health, and Feeding America.

If you're artistically minded, I would love mood boards, cover art, or fan art of any of my stories, but especially anything related to Pi'maat or Scenes From Will Riker's War.

This last one is a huge stretch, but if any vid makers out there want to make an Star Trek: The Next Generation ensemble fanvid to We Are Going to Be Friends by The White Stripes, that would be amazing.

As is customary, if I have the opportunity to repurpose a

snowflake_challenge prompt as a Friday open thread prompt, I will.

Today's prompt asks create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

(While it's not explicitly stated, I assume the intent is to ask for things on a small-scale personal fannish or material level, not to express wishes relating to the myriad large, overwhelming global crises or things of that nature. I ported it over as an open thread prompt intending a similar spirit.)

I find this sort of thing a bit awkward, but let's give it a go:

1. I would love for people to fill the requests on the outstanding needy trees in

fandomtrees. You can see details here. While my tree is not on the list, while I'm talking about this fest, I'd always love to have more gifts!
2. Recommend your favourite folktale, fairytale, and/or mythological retellings — book medium only. In terms of the spectrum on which these types of retellings exist, I tend to prefer things closer to the Angela Carter end of the spectrum as opposed to the Disney end when it comes to tone and approach.
3. Tell me about delicious things that you've cooked and enjoyed eating recently! I'm an omnivore with no dietary restrictions.

I know some of you have already created your own wishlists in your journals, but please feel free to link them in the comments. And do look at other people's wishlists in the comments, and see if you're able to fulfill anything. Let's use this post as a way to work through our awkward feelings about wanting things in public. (Or maybe it's only me.)

One of the things I want to work on this year is unmasking. In general, but especially with my family. This tumblr post has some ways to start.

I thought I was starting today, actually, but while I expressed my emotions honestly, my family are not emotionally safe for me to be that vulnerable around, which is why I have been masking around them in the first place... today was hard because I'm grappling with the fact that these people who claim to love me and have affection for me, want me to stay quiet when someone in the family hurts me. They'll make excuses for the person who hurt me because they think it's okay for me to be hurt. When I love someone, I don't want them hurt. So I don't believe this is love, I don't understand this so-called familial love. Seems cultish to me.

It's in moments of realisation like these, when I brush against my family and leave with a bleeding gash, that I feel lonely despite having met friends very recently.

Unmasking has to go hand in hand with protecting myself and setting strong boundaries. Being 'radically visible' when it's not safe for you to be really seen by these people? Needs more thought.

This is giving me more ideas for why I am so parasocially fascinated by Yunho, the idol who does not want to be seen to feel safe. Maybe he reminds me of what I do on a daily basis to feel safe around my family. He's very performative and I don't have the energy for that, so I'm very avoidant.

I wonder if Yunho is lonely. Whether he ever wants to be honest and vulnerable. Maybe safety comes first for him.

A distant planet is home to two interdependent human colonies: the hierarchical City, founded by convicts exiled from Earth, and the egalitarian Town, founded by a group of pacifists. They have little in common besides having been removed from Earth because authorities there found them inconvenient, and they have very different visions for their shared planet's future. The City sees itself as the legitimate planetary government (they were there first and they perceive the Town as weak and worthy only of exploitation) while the Town sees itself as the City's equal and expects to resolve issues through nonviolent dialogue. Our protagonist is Luz, the daughter of a powerful City leader. As she learns more about the Town and her father's plans for it, Luz sees a deadly conflict brewing and finds herself caught in the middle.

Le Guin was quoted as saying that this book "might be" part of the Hainish Cycle. I'm not sure the timeline quite fits (not that she ever sweated the timeline) but the themes certainly do. My impression on re-reading is that this one does a lot of things that The Word for World Is Forest tried to do, but better—and it does some of the things that The Dispossessed already did, with less detail but with some insightful additional angles.

I really like this book, and I definitely got more out of it as an adult, especially in the context of Le Guin's earlier work. I don't hear it mentioned very often when people talk about her, but I think there's more here to chew on than I first realized.

Cheerleading - I'm going through a period of high anxiety, and would appreciate kind words. Even just a "You can do it!" would be helpful. If you "know" me even just a little bit, I would not be opposed to hearing about one thing you like about me.

Icons/userpics for Final Fantasy games - I'm a BIG fan of the franchise, and would love some more icons from it. The icons don't need to be especially made for me! Any game/character is fine, but I currently don't have icons from FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFIV, or FFVI. Static icons only, please. Here's a list of characters from the games:
* FFI - unnamed characters. I am partial to the mages (Red, Black, White) but any job class would be cool.
* FFII - Firion, Maria, Guy, Leon. For minor NPCs, I like Minwu, Gordon and Scott.
* FFIII (DS remake) - Luneth, Arc, Refia, Ingus. For NPCs, I really dig Desch.

Hikaru no Go vol. 1-23 (Yumi Hotta/Takeshi Obata) - I mentioned HikaGo last month as my actual advent countdown, even though I don't think I was quite on schedule... Anyway, I still really like it even though it should have ended with vol. 17. I should really write a few little bits of Hikaru/Akira.

Whistle! vol. 1-24 (Daisuke Higuchi) - a re-read from a very long time ago and while I still really liked the first half, the second half just didn't carry the weight and bogged down. Whistle! is about soccer, and starts off with a junior high team but the stakes just keep getting higher and higher and the end is really meh. I suspect there was some editorial meddling or something? I think I'll let this go...

Uta~Kata - a rewatch, still lovely, but it's not as strong as some series about magical adolescence.

Astro Boy vol. 1 - a more recent Astro Boy anime that was fun enough but I can't imagine hunting down the rest. I think my favorite 'modern' Astro Boy is the CG movie.

Transformers: Robots in Disguise (Overloaded & Decepticon Island) - this was pretty good story-wise but the designs/animation are kind of ugly. I think this is only the second RID disc I've ever found and yeah, I'd watch more but ??? (Same that iirc there's no collections of Rescue Bots, which sucks because Rescue Bots is cute.)

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues - pretty good and fairly funny but I also feel like attempting to replicate the sheer everything of Spinal Tap is a pretty impossible task. However, the cameos are amazing and holy shit does Elton John still have a strong voice.

Don't Rub Yourself Against My Ass!! (Sakira) - about the most meh BL manga I picked up like a decade ago and then forgot about. It can also go. The main story is about an ex-cop and it's really explicit but it's just not my cuppa.

Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz - for Christmas, of course. I feel like my mental timeline of Gundam Wing was weirdly off; some things happened way before I thought they should, some far later. Time to finally read the new manga...

So, I wanna make a FNAF-like one day, multiple if our ambition ever gets its way. But to make sure I wouldn't make something boring (which is worse then being bad IMO), I wanna hear if anybody has recs for FNAF-likes. Specifically we're looking for games that are similar in gameplay to FNAF's core games & would appriate more niche fangames if possible.

We already know of Candy's, Popgoes & Those Nights At Rachel's. So don't rec those please.

I did not go downtown today, so this was really a no-shopping day!

I visited mom, did a load of laundry, hand-washed dishes, ran a load in the dishwasher, went for a couple walks with Pip and the dogs, cut up chicken for the dogs' meals, and scooped kitty litter. I put a roast in the crock pot for supper. (Not my usual chuck roast; I decided to try something different.)

I went with the Ginger Peach tea again this morning. ( for reasons that you might not want to read )

I wrote more! ~1,200 words and I’ve managed to finish the first draft of the fic at ~5,600 words! Now to type it in. o_O I read more in Amelia Peabody and watched the first Jack Reacher movie. (I’ve seen it, or most of it in parts, before, but having read the first three books, I wanted to re-watch it to see what I thought about it in comparison. I can see Tom Cruise as a pilot, I can even see him as a spy, but I cannot see him as Jack Reacher. And not just because of his height. Jack Reacher is hugely muscled. He was shot in the chest and didn’t die because his pectoral muscle was so thick it acted like kevlar. I cannot see Tom Cruise as this character.)

Temps started out at 36.0(F) and reached 43.5. It was not supposed to get this warm, but it has so I won’t complain. We even had some sun!

Mom Update:

Mom was doing okay when I saw her. I was able to help her get last year’s bills out of the filing cabinet so she could start filing this year’s bills and I did up the few dishes in the sink. We talked more about the hospice visit and she told me that hospice would be completely covered and that the rep (I should probably start calling her the nurse?) will start visiting mom once a week just to check-up on her and take vitals, etc.

Mom often talks about a woman she knows who lived 3-years past when her family called hospice, so she’s not giving up. I know she wants to see Ireland graduate, and if she could just hang on that long I think she’d be happy.
